Al-Alaq (The Clinging)
Translation
Verses 1-19
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ (1)
Read in the name of your Lord Who created.
[Al Quran ; 96:1]
خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ (2)
Created the human from a clinging (fertilised) egg.
[Al Quran ; 96:2]
اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ (3)
Read, and your Lord is Most Honourable.
[Al Quran ; 96:3]
الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ (4)
Who taught by the pen.
[Al Quran ; 96:4]
عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ (5)
Taught the human that which he did not know.
[Al Quran ; 96:5]
كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ (6)
No; indeed, the human transgresses.
[Al Quran ; 96:6]
أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ (7)
Becuase he sees himself rich.
[Al Quran ; 96:7]
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ (8)
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
[Al Quran ; 96:8]
أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ (9)
Have you seen the one who forbids.
[Al Quran ; 96:9]
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ (10)
A servant when he prays?
[Al Quran ; 96:10]
أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ (11)
Have you seen if he is upon guidance.
[Al Quran ; 96:11]
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ (12)
Or commands righteousness?
[Al Quran ; 96:12]
أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (13)
Have you seen if he denies and turns away.
[Al Quran ; 96:13]
أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ (14)
Does he not know that Allah sees?
[Al Quran ; 96:14]
كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ (15)
No; if he does not abstain, We will surely seize him by the forelock.
[Al Quran ; 96:15]
نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ (16)
A lying, sinful forelock.
[Al Quran ; 96:16]
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ (17)
Let him call his council.
[Al Quran ; 96:17]
سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ (18)
We will call the hell keepers.
[Al Quran ; 96:18]
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ (19)
No; do not obey him and prostrate and draw near (Allah).
