Al-Kahf (The Cave)

Translation

Verses 1-20

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Praise be to Allah, Who has sent down to His servant the book and has not made therein any deviance.
[Al Quran ; 18:1]

Valuable to warn of a severe distress from Him and give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that for them will be a good reward.
[Al Quran ; 18:2]

Remaining therein forever.
[Al Quran ; 18:3]

And warn those who have said: Allah has taken a child.
[Al Quran ; 18:4]

They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; indeed, they say nothing except lies.
[Al Quran ; 18:5]

Then perhaps you would torment yourself after them, if they do not believe in this saying (the Quran) out of sorrow.
[Al Quran ; 18:6]

Indeed, We have made whatever is on the earth an adornment for it that We may test them as to which of them is best in deed.
[Al Quran ; 18:7]

And indeed, We will make what is upon it (the earth) a barren ground.
[Al Quran ; 18:8]

Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder?
[Al Quran ; 18:9]

When the youths sought refuge in the cave and said: Our Lord! Grant us from You mercy and prepare for us from our affair guidance.
[Al Quran ; 18:10]

So We struck over their ears in the cave for a number of years.
[Al Quran ; 18:11]

Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two parties counted how long they remained in time.
[Al Quran ; 18:12]

We narrate to you their story in truth; indeed, they were youths who have believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
[Al Quran ; 18:13]

And We bound their hearts when they stood up and said: Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, we will never call other than Him any god; for then we would have said an enormity.
[Al Quran ; 18:14]

These, our people have taken other than Him gods; why do they not produce to them an obvious authority? And who is more unjust than one who forges against Allah lies?
[Al Quran ; 18:15]

And when you stay away from them and what they worship except Allah, then retreat to the cave; your Lord will spread for you from His mercy and prepare for you from your affair a facility.
[Al Quran ; 18:16]

And you see the sun when it rose visiting their cave towards the right hand, and when it set inclining away from them towards the left, while they were in a cavity thereof. That was from the signs of Allah. Whoever Allah guides, he is guided, and whoever He misguides, then you will not find for him a guardian to guide.
[Al Quran ; 18:17]

And you would think of them awake while they were asleep; and We turn them to the right and to the left while their dog outstretching its forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned away from them fleeing and been filled by them with horror.
[Al Quran ; 18:18]

And thus did We awake them that they might question one another. A speaker among them said: How long have you remained? They said: We have remained a day or a part of a day. (Others) said: Your Lord is most Knowing how long you have remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city, then let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it, and let him make no one be aware of you.
[Al Quran ; 18:19]

Indeed, if they come upon you, they would stone you or return you to their religion, and then you will never succeed.
[Al Quran ; 18:20]

Al-Kahf (The Cave)

Translation

Verses 21-40

And thus did We cause them to be found that they (who found them) might know that the promise of Allah is truthful and that for the hour, there is no doubt about it. When they disputed among themselves about their affair and said: Build over them a structure, their Lord is most Knowing of them. Those who prevailed in their affair said: We will surely take over them a mosque.
[Al Quran ; 18:21]

They will say: Three, their fourth is their dog; and (others) say: Five, their sixth is their dog, guessing the unknown. And (others) say: Seven and their eighth is their dog. Say: My Lord is most Knowing their count; none knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not ask about them anyone among them.
[Al Quran ; 18:22]

And do not say of anything: Indeed, I will do that tomorrow.
[Al Quran ; 18:23]

Except if Allah wills. And remember your Lord when you forget and say: Hopefully my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to guidance.
[Al Quran ; 18:24]

And they remained in their cave three hundred years and were increased by nine.
[Al Quran ; 18:25]

Say: Allah is most Knowing how long they remained. To Him belongs the unknown of the heavens and the earth. How Seeing is He and how Hearing. They do not have other than Him any guardian; and He does not associate with His judgment anyone.
[Al Quran ; 18:26]

And recite what has been revealed to you from the book of your Lord, there is no changing to His words. And never will you find in other than Him a refuge.
[Al Quran ; 18:27]

And be patient with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening; they desire His direction. And let not your eyes pass beyond them; you desire the adornment of the life of this world, and do not obey one whose heart We have made unaware of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever negligent.
[Al Quran ; 18:28]

And say: The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve. Indeed, We have prepared for the unjust people a fire whose walls will surround them; and if they call for help, they will be helped with water like molten brass which scalds the faces. Miserable is the drink and bad is the resting place.
[Al Quran ; 18:29]

Indeed, those who have believed and done good deeds, indeed, We will not waste the reward of any who did good in deed.
[Al Quran ; 18:30]

It is them for whom there will be gardens of Eden, beneath which rivers flow; they will be adorned therein by bracelets of gold, and they will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on recliners. Excellent is the reward and good is the resting place.
[Al Quran ; 18:31]

And strike for them an example of two men: We made for one of them two gardens of vines and surrounded them with palm trees and made between them plants.
[Al Quran ; 18:32]

Each of both gardens yielded their food and did not fail short thereof anything, and We caused to gush forth within them a river.
[Al Quran ; 18:33]

And he had plant produce, so he said to his companion while he debated him: I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in manpower.
[Al Quran ; 18:34]

And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said: I do not think that these will ever perish.
[Al Quran ; 18:35]

And I do not think the hour will occur; and even if I should be returned to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return.
[Al Quran ; 18:36]

His companion said to him while he debated him: Have you disbelieved in the One Who created you from dust then from a drop then fashioned you (as) a man?
[Al Quran ; 18:37]

But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I do not associate with my Lord anyone.
[Al Quran ; 18:38]

And why, when you entered your garden, did you not say: This is what Allah willed, there is no power except in Allah? Even if you see me lesser than you in wealth and children.
[Al Quran ; 18:39]

And hopefully my Lord will give me better than your garden and send upon it a calamity from the sky, so it will become a dusty ground.
[Al Quran ; 18:40]

Al-Kahf (The Cave)

Translation

Verses 41-60

Or its water will become lost, so you would be unable to seek it.
[Al Quran ; 18:41]

And his produce was encompassed (by ruin), so he began to turn his hands for what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed upon its trellises, and he said: Oh, I wish that I had not associated with my Lord anyone.
[Al Quran ; 18:42]

And there was for him no one to help him other than Allah, nor could he help himself.
[Al Quran ; 18:43]

There, the guardianship is for Allah, the Truth; He is best in reward and best in outcome.
[Al Quran ; 18:44]

And strike for them an example of the life of this world: Like water which We send down from the sky so the plants of the earth mingle with it and it becomes dry pieces which the winds scatter. And Allah is ever over everything Capable.
[Al Quran ; 18:45]

Wealth and sons are adornment of the life of this world. And the ever-lasting good deeds are better with your Lord in reward and better for hope.
[Al Quran ; 18:46]

And the day when We will cause the mountains to move and you will see the earth appearing, and We will gather them so We leave not from them anyone.
[Al Quran ; 18:47]

And they will be presented before your Lord in rows. (It will be said to them:) You have certainly come to Us as We created you the first time. Rather, you thought that We will not make for you an appointment.
[Al Quran ; 18:48]

And the book will be placed, then you will see the criminals fearing from what is in it, and they will say: Oh, woe to us, why this book does not leave nothing small or great except that it had recorded it. And they will find what they had done present; and your Lord does not do injustice to anyone.
[Al Quran ; 18:49]

And when We said to the angels: Prostrate to Adam. And they prostrated except Iblis, he was of the jinn and disobeyed the command of his Lord. Would you then take him and his descendants as guardians other than Me while they are to you an enemy? Miserable for the unjust is the exchange.
[Al Quran ; 18:50]

I did not make them witness the creation of the heavens and the earth or the creation of themselves, and I am not to take the misleaders as assistants.
[Al Quran ; 18:51]

And the day when He (Allah) will say: Call upon My associates whom you alleged to be. And they will call upon them, but they will not answer them. And We will make between them destruction.
[Al Quran ; 18:52]

And the criminals will see the fire and will think that they are going to fall into it. And will not find from it a (another) way.
[Al Quran ; 18:53]

And We have certainly explained in this Quran for the people every kind of example; and the human has ever been, most of anything, disputing.
[Al Quran ; 18:54]

And nothing has prevented the people to believe when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that the way of the former people come to them or that the torture come before them.
[Al Quran ; 18:55]

And We did not send the messengers except as givers of good tidings and warners. And those who have disbelieved dispute by falsehood to invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My signs and that of which they are warned in ridicule.
[Al Quran ; 18:56]

And who is more unjust than one who is reminded with the signs of his Lord then he turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have made over their hearts veils lest they understand it, and in their ears heaviness. And if you call them to guidance, then they will not be guided ever.
[Al Quran ; 18:57]

And your Lord is the Forgiver, the Possessor of mercy. If He was to hold them to account for what they have earned, He would have hastened for them the torture. Rather, for them there is an appointment from which they will not find an escape.
[Al Quran ; 18:58]

And (as for) these villages, We destroyed them when they did injustice, and We have made for their destruction an appointment.
[Al Quran ; 18:59]

And when Musa said to his boy: I will not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue on for ages.
[Al Quran ; 18:60]

Al-Kahf (The Cave)

Translation

Verses 61-80

So when they reached a junction between them, they forgot their whale, and it took its way into the sea, breaking free.
[Al Quran ; 18:61]

And when they passed by (the junction), he (Musa) said to his boy: Bring to us our lunch; we have certainly suffered in this, our journey, (much) fatigue.
[Al Quran ; 18:62]

He (the boy) said: Did you see when we took refuge on the rock that I forgot the whale, and none made me forget (it) except the devil that I should mentioned it. And it took its way into the sea amazingly.
[Al Quran ; 18:63]

He (Musa) said: That is what we were seeking. So they returned following their footprints.
[Al Quran ; 18:64]

And they found a servant from among Our servants whom We had given mercy from Us and had taught from Us knowledge.
[Al Quran ; 18:65]

Musa said to him: May I follow you in order that you teach me from what you have been taught of guidance?
[Al Quran ; 18:66]

He (the companion) said: Indeed, you will not have with me patience.
[Al Quran ; 18:67]

And how can you be patient for what you do not encompass in knowledge?
[Al Quran ; 18:68]

He (Musa) said: You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in any command.
[Al Quran ; 18:69]

He (the companion) said: Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I utter to you about it information.
[Al Quran ; 18:70]

So they set out, until when they embarked on the ship, he (the companion) made a hole in it. He (Musa) said: Have you made a hole in it to drown its people? You have certainly brought a dreadful thing.
[Al Quran ; 18:71]

He (the companion) said: Did I not say that you will not have with me patience?
[Al Quran ; 18:72]

He (Musa) said: Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not make me tired in my affair with (more) difficulty.
[Al Quran ; 18:73]

So they set out, until when they met a boy, so he killed him. He (Musa) said: Have you killed a pure soul for other than (having killed) a soul? You have certainly brought a horrid thing.
[Al Quran ; 18:74]

He (the companion) said: Did I not say that you will not have with me patience?
[Al Quran ; 18:75]

He (Musa) said: If I ask you about anything after this, then do not accompany me; you have certainly got from me (many) excuses.
[Al Quran ; 18:76]

So they set out, until when they came to a village from which they asked its people food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. Then they (Musa and his companion) found therein a wall which was about to collapse, so he (the companion) repaired it. He (Musa) said: If you had willed, you could have taken for it a reward.
[Al Quran ; 18:77]

He (the companion) said: This is parting between me and you; I will inform you of the interpretation of that upon which you could not have patience.
[Al Quran ; 18:78]

As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea, and I wanted to defect it, and there was behind them a king who seized every ship by force.
[Al Quran ; 18:79]

And as for the boy, his parents were believers and we (the companion and the parents) feared that he makes them tired by transgression and disbelief.
[Al Quran ; 18:80]

Al-Kahf (The Cave)

Translation

Verses 81-100

So we (the companion and the parents) wanted that their Lord might substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.
[Al Quran ; 18:81]

And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphaned boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was righteous; so your Lord wanted that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord; and I did not do it according to my command. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.
[Al Quran ; 18:82]

And they ask you about Zul-Qarnayn. Say: I will recite to you about him information.
[Al Quran ; 18:83]

Indeed, We have established him in the land and gave him of everything a cause.
[Al Quran ; 18:84]

So he followed a cause.
[Al Quran ; 18:85]

Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it (as if) setting in a muddy spring and found near it (the spring) a people. We (Allah) said: O Zul-Qarnayn! Either you torture (them) or else take among them goodness.
[Al Quran ; 18:86]

He (Zul-Qarnayn) said: As for one who has done injustice, we will torture him, then he will be returned to his Lord; and He will castigate him with a horrid torture.
[Al Quran ; 18:87]

And as for one who has believed and done good deed, for him is the reward of goodness, and we (Zul-Qarnayn) will say to him from Our command with ease.
[Al Quran ; 18:88]

Then he followed a cause.
[Al Quran ; 18:89]

Until, when he reached the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We have not made from it a shelter.
[Al Quran ; 18:90]

Thus, and We encompassed what he had with knowledge.
[Al Quran ; 18:91]

Then he followed a cause.
[Al Quran ; 18:92]

Until, when he reached between the two dams, he found near them a people who could hardly understand a saying.
[Al Quran ; 18:93]

They said: O Zul-Qarnayn! Indeed, Yagog and Magog are mischief makers in the land. So may we make for you an exit that you might make between us and them a dam?
[Al Quran ; 18:94]

He (Zul-Qarnaan) said: What my Lord has established me over is better, so help me with strength, (and) I will make between you and them a bank.
[Al Quran ; 18:95]

Bring me blocks of iron; until, when he had levelled between the two hills, he said: Blow, until when he had made it (like) fire, he said: Bring me, that I may pour over it molten brass.
[Al Quran ; 18:96]

So they (Yagog and Magog) were not able to pass it, nor could they make in it a hole.
[Al Quran ; 18:97]

He (Zul-Qarnayn) said: This is a mercy from my Lord; and when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it levelled. And ever is the promise of my Lord true.
[Al Quran ; 18:98]

And We will leave some of them on that day surge against others; and the trumpet will be blown, so We will gather them in gathering.
[Al Quran ; 18:99]

And We will display hell on that day before the unbelievers, on display.
[Al Quran ; 18:100]

Al-Kahf (The Cave)

Translation

Verses 101-110

Those whose eyes were in cover from My reminder, and they were not able to hear.
[Al Quran ; 18:101]

Do those who have disbelieved think that they can take My servants other than Me as guardians? Indeed, We have prepared hell for the unbelievers as a lodging.
[Al Quran ; 18:102]

Say: Shall we inform you of the greatest losers in deeds?
[Al Quran ; 18:103]

Those whose effort is lost in the life of this world, while they think that they are doing well in work.
[Al Quran ; 18:104]

It is them who have disbelieved in the signs of their Lord and in His meeting, so their deeds have become nullified, and We will not establish for them on the day of resurrection any weight.
[Al Quran ; 18:105]

That is their reward, hell, because they have disbelieved and took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.
[Al Quran ; 18:106]

Indeed, those who have believed and done good deeds, for them are the gardens of paradise as a lodging.
[Al Quran ; 18:107]

Abiding therein; they will not desire from it any change.
[Al Quran ; 18:108]

Say: If the sea was ink for the words of my Lord, the sea would have been exhausted before the words of my Lord are exhausted, even if We were to bring the like of it (the sea) as a supplement.
[Al Quran ; 18:109]

Say: I am only a human like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God, so whoever hopes for the meeting of his Lord, he should do good deed and not associate in the worship of His Lord anyone.
[Al Quran ; 18:110]
